Fresh & Seasoned is back, and this one has a twist! Andrea Rossi, the Durango Creative District, and Friends of Durango Seniors have partnered with other nonprofits to offer a free stand-up comedy class for folks aged 65+, and this showcase is where those students take the stage. They won't be up there alone, though. We're rounding out the lineup with some other brand-new comics from around town, who've been attending mics or past classes, along with some of your seasoned local favorites.
Comedy is such a unique artform in that anyone who wants to pick up a microphone can do it. That's the beauty of the craft, and this lineup proves it: first-timers and veterans, every age, all sharing the same stage.
Over the course of September and early October, participants in the Creative Aging Workshop have been learning joke writing from the ground up in Andrea's Stand Up 101 Course. She teaches how to build a joke premise, write a punchline, own your comedic voice, and more.
Andrea, the Durango Creative District, and nonprofits such as Friends of Durango Seniors, Think 360 Arts, and Lifetime Arts have been working to offer this course as a part of a larger series of programming related to aging creatively & in community. Check out any of the nonprofits to learn more!
This class was offered for free to the communit, and we're excited to offer this showcase at a low cost too. For just $10, you'll get to watch the creative process in action, see what happens when fresh voices and seasoned comics share a stage, and enjoy an uplifting night of local comedy.
